Tumblr2WP lets you backup your Tumblr weblog in a format that’s widely used and relatively easy to parse. Unlike Tumblr’s own Mac-only sort-of-backup tool, which (weirdly) hides a potentially useful XML export in a static HTML version of your site.
One Thing Well sort-of misses the point here: as I expounded before, HTML is the archive format. Tumblr’s backup applet gives you a complete, static copy of your site that you can mirror anywhere — it gives you everything you need to keep a controllable, future-proof archive of your blog with minimal effort.1
That said, using HTML as your archive format of choice doesn’t preclude being heterogeneous in your backups; with storage space as cheap as it is, there’s no sane reason not to keep a Wordpress-compatible XML backup of your site too.

At this point in its life, it’s pretty unforgivable that Tumblr doesn’t have a Windows version of its backup applet. I know they’re primarily a Mac shop, but the majority of their users aren’t running OS X.
It looks like Posterous is actually worse than Tumblr in this regard: as far as I can see, there’s no officially supported backup option at all. ↩
