Shown in isolation — as it is in the lower half of the above mock-up — a black menu bar looks pretty awful to me. Shown in context, however, it looks almost perfect. Bonus points because it’s a subtle visual reinforcement of the iOS/OS X merger (even if I’m not sold on the idea).
